Wife...Woman...Friend, Part II by Dana Gilmore

December 31, 2005

This piece simply came to me as poemwife.wav and was sent to me via email. However, I've since found out that the title is "Wife...Woman...Friend, Part II" by spoken word poet Dana Gilmore.

Thank you to J. Delaney of Georgia for letting me know the name of the poet. You can visit Ms. Gilmore's site at DanaGilmore.com. I'd been waiting for months for someone to verify the poet's identity to me. "Wife...Woman...Friend, Part II" is a fantastic rant poem with which women who have been through hell with men will probably identify. Women will identify with the words moreso if they can rejoice that they have found the right man for them now as the woman in the poem has. She runs down the men from the game players, money flashers, and control freaks to the holier-than-thous and man-sluts. Worth a listen, but if the "n" word offends you regardless of context, then this is one to leave alone.

Sistahs, keep a positive mind in 2006. The poetess has, after all, found the right man for her when all is said and done.
